Wet Room Flooring in Hampshire

Wet rooms have become increasingly popular due to their convenience.

As a wet room is a complete waterproof space, with a shower area that’s flush with the rest of the floor, you simply walk straight in. Wet rooms are perfect if you’re constantly on the go or have mobility issues.

As the whole room needs to be watertight, flooring is one of the most important aspects of a wet room – and it needs to be safe and non-slip as well as waterproof.

Tiles for wet rooms

Tiles are a popular choice as they can be used as both floor and wall covering.

Obviously, you need to avoid porous tiles. If you use materials such as limestone, marble or slate, they’ll need to be treated and sealed every few months to prevent water seepage.

Non-porous tiles, including porcelain, are a more convenient choice. Even large porcelain tiles can be laid so that they adhere to the shape of the wet room and channel water towards the drain. Alternatively, mosaic tiles can be contoured to ensure water drains away in the right direction.

A flooring specialist will ensure wet room tiles are precisely fitted so that there’s no water penetration.

Another consideration when using tiles in a wet room is texture. The tiles should have a textured surface to ensure they’re non-slip, even when wet. With mosaic tiles, there are naturally more grout lines, and these provide their own slip resistance.

Vinyl flooring for wet rooms

Vinyl sheets are commonly used in wet rooms because they’re functional, practical and durable.

Anti-slip vinyl provides a higher level of slip resistance than most tiled flooring. When vinyl flooring is professionally fitted, it’s completely sealed with a waterproof barrier.

The vinyl is shaped around the drain to ensure total coverage and flow. The only place for water to flow away is down the drain hole.
