most economic flooring

If you’re looking for inexpensive, durable, and stylish flooring, there are a number of different options.

From laminate and vinyl to engineered wood or even stone, there’s a flooring solution to suit the requirements of every room in your home – and your budget.

Laminate flooring

Laminate is made up of a composite of materials and is inexpensive and durable. While it won’t last quite as long as vinyl, it’s still a hardwearing surface.

A major benefit of laminate is that there is such a wide range of colours, patterns and designs to choose from, including realistic stone or wood effect that’s embossed on the surface.

Laminate is not as waterproof as vinyl and should be avoided in wet or high moisture rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens. However, it’s ideal for high traffic areas such as living rooms and halls.

Vinyl flooring

Vinyl is one of the most versatile types of flooring. It’s durable, waterproof, and easy to keep clean. It requires very little maintenance, and vacuuming, sweeping, or mopping is all that’s needed.

The beauty of vinyl is that it’s hardwearing, and there’s plenty of choice when it comes to design. You can choose from plain colours to outlandish patterns – or the simplicity of wood or stone effect.

Vinyl is probably the most popular economical flooring for domestic use as it works well in pretty much any room in the house.

Luxury vinyl flooring

Luxury vinyl flooring tends to come in planks or tiles rather than a single roll. It has all the practicality of vinyl with some extra benefits.

Luxury vinyl is warm and comfortable underfoot, and it’s also conducive to underfloor heating. Like vinyl, there are plenty of colours and patterns to choose from, and luxury vinyl offers very convincing wood and stone effect designs.

Carpet and carpet tiles

It’s not surprising that carpet is still the first choice for living rooms and bedrooms as it’s economical and provides a high degree of comfort. The other major advantage of carpet is the soundproofing that it offers – the thicker the carpet, the more reduction in noise.

Carpet tiles are ideal for home studies where you want functionality as well as comfort. The only downside of carpet is that it’s not so easy to mop up spillages, and it’s not always practical for pet owners.

Engineered wood flooring

Although more expensive than the above flooring options, engineered wood flooring can be economical in some circumstances. It’s certainly much cheaper than solid wood.

Engineered wood flooring is hardwearing and will last for a long time. Although it’s more resistant to warping than solid wood, it’s still not advisable to use it in rooms where there is high humidity.

The benefit of engineered wood is that it has a real-wood veneer that can be sanded and treated if it becomes stained, scuffed or worn. As a result, you can bring back its original appearance, adding to its longevity.

Stone flooring

Stone flooring is not cheap. However, it can be economical in certain circumstances if you need a flooring solution that will last a lifetime.

Mainly used in kitchens – granite, limestone, sandstone, slate, or marble flooring will provide a virtually indestructible floor that will withstand pretty much anything that’s thrown at it.

Due to the character of stone, it will generally stay unchanged in appearance for a very long time.
