Tarkett conductive commercial flooring

If you need advice on choosing the right type of conductive or anti-static flooring for your specialist workplace environment, FineLine Flooring can help.

What is conductive flooring?

Conductive flooring meets all three recommended electrical parameters of ANSI/ESD S20.20-2007.

Static electricity in floors and conductive floors have a low electrical resistance. This is achieved by adding thousands of tiny conductive fibres or 'veins' into the tile or sheet product.

Conductive flooring is intended to prevent, mitigate, dissipate, conduct and remove or ground excessive static electricity charges on people, furniture and equipment. Depending on the brand of flooring, these conductive fibres or chips could be made of carbon, graphite, metal, or a combination of materials. The structure of the resilient product is homogeneous to ensure that the fibres are evenly distributed.

We work with leading suppliers of conductive and anti-static safety flooring.

Both conductive and anti-static safety floorcoverings will prevent a person from building up a charge as they walk across the floor, ensuring they don’t get a shock when they touch something that conducts electricity.

The difference between conductive and anti-static flooring is that the top layer of an anti-static floor has a coating that dissipates static across its surface, so you never build up enough charge to get a shock. Conductive flooring is a more robust solution because it’s earthed, therefore gives a much higher level of protection than anti-static matting.

What type of environments require conductive flooring?

Conductive and anti-static flooring is used in manufacturing, repairing, servicing or handling environments. It’s often laid in areas where equipment is used that’s susceptible to damage from electrostatic discharge. This could include the manufacture of components for the electronics, aviation, automotive, IT, oil and gas, and telecoms industries.
